Each lamp is handcrafted from heavy weight stoneware fired at a high temperature, resulting in a glaze that won't chip easily. Originally from Copenhagen, Denmark where they studied ceramics and design, Gunnar and Lotte Bostlund emigrated to Canada in the 1950's. There they began producing various ceramic products, eventually making their first lamp in 1956. Their son developed the fiberglass lampshade and the product that would become known as the "Lotte Lamp" was born. The popularity of Danish design propelled the business and soon the lamps could be found throughout North America, including in the window of Georg Jensen's flagship store on Fifth Avenue.
Morten Bostlund continued his parent's tradition forward and in 1997 transferred it to Victor and Laura Aume, another couple with a passion for ceramics and design. Using the original molds and glaze techniques, they continue production in their barn in Circleville, Ohio.
